Burda WOF 1-2008-124 (modified)

This month is the fitted blouse contest going on over at Patternreview and I was so hoping to participate but with the new " on a person" rule my hopes disintegrated in front of my eyes. Oh well that is life, not everything works in your favor. I understand why the rule is in place, it is a fitted blouse and one needs to see the fit on a person to judge so I can't complain too much. I'm just going to sew along and hopefully show my blouse in the contest thread instead and also the  fitted/ semi fitted blouse sew along that was started, I'm happy with that.

I'm using BWOF 1-2008-124, I have been wanting to make this ever since it came in the mail back in December 2007, but of course stuff happens and things get pushed back and at times forgotten. Now I'm hoping to try it but without the bottom ruffle or the ruched darts, it has only taken me 5 years to get to it. Its a good thing a basic shirt/blouse doesn't go out of style. I love wearing fitted shirts, I love them more than t-shirts. So I'm hoping this will be THE pattern I use a lot.

While I was waiting for the contest thread to start, I pulled out my arsenal (my books) for this project. I want this shirt to be the best it can, like with all my projects. I think for now I'm going to use flat felled seams for the side and sleeve seams and David's cuff and collar application technique. I know these two things alone will improve my shirt making compared to my last attempt. I have already cut out a half muslin for practice. Right now some parts of the both techniques are a little confusing even when watching it but I'm hoping it become clear once I practice them a few times.

Next up fitting, I'm still not sure which size I am with Burda magazine patterns. I have already traced the largest size (44) and will go from there.

Just Call Me MickeyD's Baby Because I'm Lovin it

September 2012 BurdaStyle that is. I was finally able to get my hands on a copy this past Wednesday and I have never wanted to make so many things from one magazine, I know my DH probably thought I was crazy the way I was walking around with that magazine all day. So once the contest is over I have my October sewing already planned. In no particular order they are:

That is eleven items but not seven patterns, if you can see that most of the patterns are just slight variations from another. I think they just took that Make 4 from 1 out and just added to the regular pattern section. Anyway now I just need to shop my collection or go shopping which is always fun.

Burdastyle 8/2012 Part 2

 I am not sure what my fabric is other than its  poly and is very lightweight. I am tempted to call this top Mystique since this thing is  is very shape shifty. I was able to cut out my pieces without needing to put extra tissue paper between the fabric layers. Now on to construction, I'm still not sure what the is best for this fabric, I tried using mock french seams but that did not do well with the raveling of the fabric so then I just switched to using my serger but I don't like the heaviness of the seam so I think next time if I do another fabric like this I'll just use the real thing and do real french seams.

Also I used tailors tacks to mark my darts it was the only thing I could think of to use on this fabric. I see that I need to do more research on working with sheer and lightweight fabrics.

So this is were I am now, next on to the back and the invisible zipper.

Next Up Burdastyle 8/2012-114

 Can we just say the new BurdaStyle condensed pattern sheets are just seizure inducing. Trying to find  the pattern pieces was not easy at all, but I hope to use this pattern more than once so hopefully its worth it. I'm making the long sleeve version but I am leaving off the collar. I have read through the instructions and they seem pretty straight forward, so I don't expect the run into any problems with that. My only problem will be with my fabric, I have no idea what it is other than some sort of polyester and that is a guess. It is very lightweight and frays so I'm dealing with how to finish the inside, I'm hoping to find something in my many books, if not then winging it I will be.

I did have pictures of my fabric but for some reason I was not able to upload them. So next time I'll try to have pics of the fabric and the beginning stages.

January BurdaStyle Picks

After looking though the online preview for the January BurdaStyle, I'm really looking forward to picking one up as soon as they are available here. Since they cost 49 riyals ($13) each, I have to be picky about what I get and the pickings have been very slim the last few months but January is looking like a winner. So now I bring you my first post on BurdaStyle patterns that interest me. Once I get the mag in my hands I think this list will grow, as few have potential but I need to see the line drawing and pictures up close.
